T here are a number of publications that come as fruit of the research and advocacy work of BECANS. Listed below are the key BECANS publications.



This book is the second in the research publication series under the Business Environment and Competitiveness across Nigerian States (BECANS) programme. The central theme of this publication –Tackling the Security Challenge – reflects BECANS II research evidence which shows that overall, the business environment deteriorated between 2007 and 2010 due largely to increased insecurity.

The BECANS Policy Briefs try to bring out and highlight specific issues surrounding the Business Environment in Nigerian States. It is fruit of the BECANS Programme of the Institute and hopes to provide softer reading on the key issues on business environment in Nigeria.










The BECANS Working Paper Series publishes the technical outputs from research, survey and analysis of the business environment and competitiveness across Nigerian states. The Series disseminates results and findings of the BECANS project. It is intended to stimulate evidence-based dialogue between government and the private sector for improved investment climate across Nigeria . The Papers provide up-to-date literature, statistics and empirical analysis to situate and enlighten business environment reforms by the three tiers of government in Nigeria.

Business Environment Reports (BERs) disseminate the results and findings of research and analyses of the conditions for private enterprise and doing business across Nigerian states. The report series is aimed at providing the scientific evidence base for constructive dialogue between state governments, private sector and civil society. It intends to stimulate policy advocacy and greater attention to the critical role of state governments in promoting competitive private enterprise. The series will be updated on a regular basis to reflect new developments and changing performance of the business environment across Nigerian states.
